This African Blackwood 14 by 5.75 inch drum is the second instrument I have built for this veteran performing artist and studio legend. Another chrome hardware lover, my client had initially spec’d steel hoops for this drum, before I convinced (read that - begged) him to try our African Blackwoods instead.
He recently took the time to phone with high praise for the instrument, calling it ‘really magnificent and spectacular’.
This also the first time I have used the Drum Foundry snare strainer which was chosen by the client. I like the styling and it has a nice side throw action, although I did need to make quite a large standoff (out of Blackwood of course) to allow for clearance.
