I can’t even remember when I bought these Sonor diecast hoops, but I was immediately impressed with both the quality of the chrome plating, and their ridiculous cost. I squirreled these away intending to save them for a special project.

Then one day (years later), a good friend and client asked for a drum with steel hoops which would be bright and cutting without being obnoxiously loud. We quickly settled on this tasty combination of nicely figured Bubinga, high gloss lacquer, and all chrome details. The Sonor 10 holer diecast hoops were a natural fit, and I think that the rest of the drum does them great justice.

I feel that the grain in this Bubinga is interesting enough to stand without further embellishment. I have always loved the sound of this wood for a rock snare drum as I find it really meaty and live without being too ringy.

In the photos below you can see that a quick wipe with some alcohol reveals the true color of the grain.
